Mouldy smelly door seals on washing machines has become very common in recent years and the majority of door seals I replace is because of this problem rather than having a leak. The reason is because using only liquid, liquid tablets or any other detergents that does not contain bleach will increase the build up of bacteria in the machine and on the door seal and also the fact that everyone washes at very low temperatures nowadays. What needs to be done to keep your washing machine free from gunk, bacteria and nasty smells is to switch to a powder and to use a regular hot wash of at least 60 degrees, unfortunately if you have already got the black mouldy (bacteria) build up on your door seal you'll find that you can not remove it and you will have to replace your door seal.

Hotpoint again, This time not their tumble dryers but their washing machines. The door lock over heats and burns out and although I have not seen a fire develop from this yet its surely only a matter of time. The picture below is a door lock and its plug. In the press and on the news and programs like Watchdog you constantly hear about Tumble Dryers catching fire especially from the Whirlpool group that includes Hotpoint Creda and Indesit. This is the filter and condenser from a Hotpoint condenser tumble dryer from someone who says they clean the filters after every use.
The problem is not so much with the designs of these tumble dryer but the customers not maintaining their appliances. Should never go out leaving these appliances on.  Think everyone knows about the Beko Fridge Freezers catching on fire but now it might be the turn of their dishwashers as well. Came across this two and a half year old Beko DL1243APS where the wiring loom in the door had all broken and was close to catching on fire.  When was the last time you saw a simple to use washing machine like this? Should be more in my opinion. Well done Bosch  If your dishwasher does not drain out and you decide to leave it a few months before having it repaired, please remove water as the bacteria grows and it smells extremely bad 
Beko Fridge Doors. Bought this Beko Fridge off ao.com in June 2014 and in October 2016 the door fell off. This door needs to be replaced and the price of the new door is nearly half that of a new fridge so I emailed ao.com making them aware of the "Sales of Goods Act" but after a few emails it seems as if they are not interested and they are telling me it is not an inherent problem but simply wear & tear and are not willing to do anything. So apart from me not going to buy anything from them anymore they are also telling me that Beko Fridge doors are only to last roughly 2 years before they fall off due to wear & tear. We are now using our old fridge that we put in the garage to use as an overflow fridge, this fridge is a Hotpoint that we bought in 1992 and the doors still haven't fallen off.
No longer be recommending ao.com to my customers in future either and that was 5/6 a week. Remember to clean your dishwasher filters for best washing results.   Bosch Dishwasher, the type where the stainless steel tank slots into a plastic base. This dishwasher is about 5 years old and has been leaking badly for a long time looking at the damage to the wall behind.  |
