The reason for this is a couple of things, first is the consistent low temperatures used by everyone nowadays along with the modern plastic tanks that are used in washing machines.
The bacteria builds up inside the machine and if you use liquid detergents rather than the traditional powder this makes it a whole lot worse because liquid detergents do not have any chlorine bleaching agents in them.
The solution is to use powder and put the machine through a maintenance wash from time to time using the 90 degree wash
Bosch washing machines in the past never suffered from drum bearing failure but now that seems to have changed. The pictures below show two Bosch models that seem to have drum bearings that fail only after a few years of use whereas Bosch washing machines of the past would last the life of the machine.
Since the year 1999 to 2005 some of these dishwashers had a problem with their circuit boards overheating and sometimes catching fire. You can find out if yours is affected by clicking on the picture.
If you find your Beko dishwasher in pumping continuously its because the anti-flood device has been activated and the most common problem for this is one of the hoses just falls off like in the picture below.
Cut a bit off the end and just push it back on.
Bosch Dishwashers are not as well built or reliable as they were. The picture shows a leak from the sump that drips onto the drain pump motor and then fills the base of the dishwasher giving an E15 fault code and putting the dishwasher out of action.
The most common fault code on a Bosch dishwasher is E24 which should be a drainage problem but I have found the E24 and E25 could be anything from the reed switch to the motor (heat pump)
Tricity Bendix washing machine around 20 years old. Amazing how small washing machine portholes were then. Bit of a struggle getting your bigger heavier items in and out.
Hotpoint washing machines have not only become more reliable but in my opinion are the best looking machines on the market, where other makes seem to have stood still in time and look rather dated. The machine pictured is the Hotpoint Ultima WMUD962 which is the top of the range, it comes with a silent motor, has a 9kg load and has a very fast 1600 rpm spin. If your machine is located in your kitchen this is the machine for you as its so incredibly quite.
Phillips Tumble Dryer from the early 1980`s still working after all these years. I used to work for Phillips in the 80`s and remember this model well. My customer in Chobham (Woking) who owns this dryer said that it is used all the time and in the 30 years that they have had it, it has never gone wrong or been repaired. Phillips domestic appliances was sold to Whirlpool and went down hill very fast. Appliances will not last anything like 30 years now although Bosch Neff & Siemens appliances still last well and a lot longer than our manufactures.
Hotpoint washing machine from 10 years ago still going strong. this is one of the last real Hotpoints before they were bought out by the Merloni group that are the owners of Indesit and Ariston.
The only thing wrong with this one was the lower concrete weight had come loose causing a lot of noise on spin.
Most people think its drum bearings when making this much noise.
